Congratulations, you’re pregnant! Now what?! Let’s talk about when you should start looking for and booking a maternity photographer.
I’m going to dive into the most frequently asked questions when it comes to photographing your baby bump.
When should I book a photographer?
I would say to start researching and booking a photographer around 3 months in advance. This would be a good task to do in your second trimester. I recommend looking through their website portfolios and start following them on Instagram – this is a good place to check out their work and get to know them a bit to make sure they are a good fit for you! Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few that you like you can then reach out to them and have them send you some information and sample photos.
When is a good time to take maternity photos?
I usually tell my clients anywhere around 28 to 34 weeks. Every person is different and some bumps make their appearance earlier than others. Once your belly is big and noticeable it’s definitely time to schedule a shoot. Typically, I’m photographing my clients when they’re 30-33 weeks. I’m flexible so we if we need to change the date, we can definitely do that. Once you hit 36 weeks that’s rocky territory – baby might be ready to make an early appearance and you want to make sure you have these done so you can finish preparing for your new family member!
How long are maternity sessions?
My maternity sessions are 60 minutes. That is plenty of time to get a wide variety of photos and we can even fit in an outfit change!
Thank you for passing through! I’m Nicole and I am the owner of Nicole Marie Photography, a family and newborn photographer who loves capturing memories for families in South Florida.
